A downloadable game for Windows

Steampunk Lincoln is a Soulslike action game in Early Development where players take up the mantle of a Steam Powered Abe Lincoln, and give battle to hordes of Coal Belching Iron Monstrosities across the ruins of a  post apocalyptic Gilded Age America.

The Prologue featured on this page is a brief introduction showcasing the first area of the game, meant to demonstrate the game's core mechanics, including its Combat, Enemy Design, and Level Design.  Feedback is both welcome and appreciated.

Xbox 360 or Xbox One Controller Highly Recommended

Taking place in the Ruins of a Gilded Age America where Industrialization has transformed every aspect of 19th Century Life, our story picks up some ten  or eighteen years after the American Civil War.

The changes brought to American society due to the development of a largely autonomous workforce, one powered by the limitless energy of coal, led to a ruinous conflict where Iron War Machines ravaged much of the continent, leaving vast tracks of the  American Heartland uninhabitable.

The stratified society which emerged from the Union's Pyrrhic victory saw the wealthy flee in airships towards the promise of a New Frontier, while the majority of survivors are faced with the choice of whether to pick through the ruins of destroyed cities or risk the trek through badlands patrolled by legions of Iron Legions ready to murder anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Enter on the scene the emergence of an enigmatic figure known as The Emancipator, a steam powered vigilante said to be on the trail of a rogue Confederate ex-patriot known as Booth. Rumored to be more machine than man, Booth has at his disposal legions of  autonomous War Machines left over from the War, with plans to build a Neo Confederate empire in the dusty plains of the Southwest.

Steampunk Lincoln is the brainchild of Brandon Watson, a 3D Artist and Game Developer. The game has been a passion project of mine that I've been developing in my spare time over the past year or two.

Inspired by games like Dark Souls and Steamworld Dig, my goal so far has been to attempt to create a polished vertical slice of the game as a foundation for further updates and developments.

Future Updates

Some of what I'm hoping to including in future updates are:

  • Fleshed out leveling system and skill tree
  • More enemies, levels, and bosses
  • A mobile base that can be upgraded over the course of the game, in the form of an airship known as 'The Gettysburg'

Tips To Increase Performance On Lower End Hardware

If you're struggling to get a high frame rate on lower end hardware, try going in to the Options Menu and disable Volumetric Clouds, Depth of Field, and  Anti Aliasing

Lowering the resolution from the launch menu should also make a noticeable difference.

I see it has been nearly a year since the last update...Does that mean your dream has vanished. I see a lot of potential in this game. Maybe not a AAA game, but certainly fun. You should make a map editor so ppl can make their own maps and share them with their friends, if you are still working on this. If not, kudos on your next project.

Very fun and interesting game, but it has some flaws.

First of all, let me start by saying I love the concept of this! Very funny and unique. I like that!

The game itself ran really smooth too, had great visuals and loved the enemy variation, the animations etc - great job on that!

However, a couple of things I found out that didn't work as well or stopped me from enjoying the game as much as I had hoped..

The main thing is the stamina. I feel like it is simply too low and empties too quick. If there's more than one enemy, or a stronger enemy, it's often impossible to dodge, and you take damage. Three strikes and you're out seems to be the idea with the health. Maybe it's just not for me, as I've never been a fan of Souls-like games.

Speaking of damage: the flamethrower. It feels like an insta-kill at this point. Your health drops so quick you can't even heal yourself properly.

Also I want to point out I think I found a glitch, but I'm not sure.. When using the arrow keys, I was able to teleport around the map, reaching places I think were inaccessible normally (seen in video).

A couple of other things I've noticed or small suggestions I have, have health drops in crates/enemies when you destroy them. Add a map maybe to navigate. Perhaps an intro to combat to show the different skills etc. Add an option to jump upwards would be nice.

I also made a video on my let's play of the game. Mostly all things I've mentioned here will also be said in the video.

That all being said, looking forward to what the game has coming! I'll definitely be following it and return to it some day.  Good luck!

Thanks  for trying out Steampunk Lincoln! And thank you also for the feedback, as it was both helpful and constructive, and exactly what I was looking for by by posting my Early Dev build on this site  :)

I'll definitely take a second look at the Stamina and Flamethrower damage as part of my next update, which will also add  into the game a basic Skill Tree and Leveling System. I'll also be adjusting enemy attack damage, along with the player's starting health and stamina. An Inventory System is also in the plans for a future update, along with the ability to restock Medkits / Healing Flasks that you come across in the environment.

Thanks again!

Hey there!

I just got a copyright claim on my video for the music used in the boss fight (claimant: Exploration Group LLC_Sound Recordings - on behalf of Parry Music Library).

Just wanted to check if this is legit and if you did indeed use licensed music in your game or if you made it yourself, have the rights to it etc.

If you did use someone else's, then it's unfortunate for me, but also want to tell you to be careful with it. Especially if you plan to sell the game at some point, licensed music can get you in trouble for legal reasons.
It also really causes a problem for YouTubers, as we get claims and can't dispute them in this case, which means losing revenue. Just a tip for future projects!

Still a fan of the game though!

So the music you got a copyright claim for is a track I purchased the rights for from a site called https://www.themusicase.com/  The track is Spanish Matador Of 21 Century by Alex Khaskin, and the rights I bought allow me to use the song in any non commercial project. Seeing as how I'm not charging people for my game, nor am I accepting  Paypal donations, I didn't foresee this being a problem. I was of course planning to hire a composer later on in the game's development when the game is closer to being commercially viable, and was planning on purchasing Royalty Free Music to use until a later date.

Thanks for letting me know though. There is of course an option in the game's menu under the Audio tab to mute all of the game's music, if needed. I'm very sorry to hear of the Copyright claim on one of your videos because of this. I know Youtube is kind of infamous for DMCA claims that have been a headache for content creators. Guess I'll have to consider perhaps removing the track if it's going to cause problems for streamers.

Much appreciated, and best wishes!

Ah I see, that makes sense! I disputed the claim under fair use, but we'll see how they reply to it.
Funny thing is that it is a completely different company that opened the claim, so I have no clue if they're connected or not.

You could always check out YouTube's audio library. They have a wide variety of license free music and sounds you can use and can commercialize on. I use it whenever a copyright claim is opened, just replace it and upload the new video.

Anyway, we'll see how it turns out haha, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into the audio library you mentioned.

This game is really cool. Im surprised more people haven't commented on it

Thank you for downloading my game! It looks like you may be having some performance issues from running on lower end hardware. If you go into the Options menu and disable Volumetric Clouds, as well as Depth of Field  and Bloom, the game should run more smoothly. In addition, lowering the resolution upon launch from 1920x1080 to something lower (1366x768 or 1280x72) should help as well.
